What is Miksang?

Miksang is a Tibetan word that translates as "good eye." The Miksang Society offers a number of programs, courses and events that present a form of contemplative photography. This school of contemplative photography brings together the art of photography, the discipline of meditation and the Dharma Art teachings of the meditation master and scholar Chögyam Trungpa.

INTRODUCTION TO CONTEMPLATIVE PHOTOGRAPHY

Miksang Level I

When eye and mind are in the same place one sees clearly and the visual world manifests directly. At ease and joyful, there is no struggle in making images that are strong and vivid.

This introductory training includes instruction, assignments, image reviews and supervised field trips. No previous photography experience necessary but you will need to bring your digital camera.

In Level Three we engage direct expressive perception: nothing added; nothing taken away.

Rauschenberg: Tribute to a Perception Warrior:

Photography is the most direct communiucation in non-violent contacts

Rauschenberg was the "Picasso" of modern American art. He died this May. His work had a direct influnece on the development of AbsoluteEye photography. As a tribute we offer two presentations at the Shambhala Center.

The series will begin with a compressed Miksang Level Three Orderly Chaos course. Only those who have taken Miksang Level One can practice these teachings, but, as a special event, everyone is welcome to attend this course. This will be followed by a public AbsouteEye series on the Shambhala manifestation of Robert Rauchenberg.

Thursday evenings 7:30pm starting May 22- June 26, 2008. Cost: $40 for whole series; $25 for the Rauchenberg section (June 12-26, 2008) or $5 donation each evening. Proceeds will be donated to the Shambhala Center Building Fund.
